NEW FIS 2010 : AFIS 1@9M-CAL

Subang, 19 Januari 2010 - Setelah berkhidmat lebih kurang 16 tahun di BKP, akhirnya, AFIS 1 telah dikeluarkan dari pesawat 9M-CAL. Ianya bertujuan untuk memberi laluan kepada FIS baru yang dijangka akan dipasang pada bulan April 2010. Selain itu, pengeluaran AFIS 1 ini akan memudahkan kerja-kerja 'Aircraft Survey' yang akan dijalankan pada penghujung bulan ini.

AFIS1 dalam kenangan - Jasamu akan sentiasa dikenang... :)

NEW FIS 2010 : Meeting #1

Subang, 19 JANUARI 2010 - Mesyuarat pertama tentang pembelian FIS baru untuk BKP, telah diadakan di Bilik Mesyuarat, BKP. Antara yang hadir ialah TPK(BKP), FTA, ATA dan wakil kontraktor, SAS.

Antara perkara yang dibincangkan adalah berkaitan dengan 'AIRCRAFT SURVEY' yang dijangkakan akan dijalankan pada 25-29 Januari 2010 oleh wakil darpada Airfield Technology dan Duncan Aviation.

DVOR commissioning at Alor Setar 2-4 December 2008 was successfully. Thank you to all calibrator crews, TM crews, IAL and Mr. Jessy. We will comming back again to stability check after 1 month from the date of commissioning.

December 2008,… Another approximately 3 weeks to go, then we call off the end of 2008and the beginning of 2009. Merely, many memories of 2008 are fresh in mind. Well, that is 2008. Let bygone be bygone. Make every Yesterday a moment of happiness and best lessons and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

December 2008… known as month of wet. It is a challenging for the calibrator’s crews facing the Mother Nature. Work is a work. Jobs need to be carried out as per scheduled. Here comes the big challenge. The ground crew ought to look after the Navigation system. Neither rain nor sunny days… neither nights nor days. Neither weekdays nor weekend. The National Interest is always being priority. Though precautions being taken, neither thee knows how stable the system is until it is calibrated and safe to be used as per ICAO standard. One may say his system is stable all the time… but electronically and mathematically, how stable it is. Hence, it needs to be checked and calibrated if required as per schedule.

Both military and civilian aircraft require safe landing during instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), such as low ceilings or reduced visibility due to fog or rain. No doubt, the calibrators or the Flight Calibration Unit is in deed important. As a unit and a team, it is our responsible to ensure the ILS(s) in the country are per ICAO standard.

Subang - Latest news from Flight Calibration Division, we are now back on track! It's nearing 4 month since the aircraft was grounded due to failure of our FIS (Flight Inspection System). Now the FIS repaired after receiving a new 're-cond' VCOM card from the manufacturer. During this period, our guys was done their best to repair the FIS but it still too 'ill' to wake-up huhuhu... During this 4 month also which is full with havoc, the demand for doing routine flight inspection and commissioning new navaids was very high and stressing.

While waiting our FIS to recover, we had a discuss among our self for doing flight inspection by using alternative method, that is Theodolite system. By flying the propeller aircraft which is more slower than jet aircraft, the theodolite tracking will be more easier. We will fully utilized the Beechcraft King Air 200 now! Calibrator I & II was down, it's depend on you now Calibrator IV.. Actually it had been quit a time since the last time we used the theodolite for only in purpose to check the obstacle clearance of the runway. One thing to be sure that calibrating by using theodolite also a lot difficult to be done and could take double time comparing using the FIS. Our FTA senior said they had to look into the 'old book' back to memorize the calculation in term of positioning the theodolite tripod in the right place correspondent to the PAPI angle and location...but the theodolite tracking procedure still in their mind! Glorious to our senior!

Finally, on 24th-26th September 2008 we are went to Limbang and Labuan for a purpose of theodolite tracking training and we succeed on this speacial mission nearing 100%. (and bear in mind that we are doing this mission in Ramadhan month - buat kerja kat tengah panas terik dalam bulan puasa tu...). Then we continue the progress by doing the PAPI Commissioning flight check at Kuala Terengganu and once again we have done it with satisfactory. Thanks to our FTA seniors and also not to forget our special thanks and salute to our captain, Captain Abdul Rahman which are just came back from Wichita (flying the Calibrator II for 12 years mandatory check) a day before we take-off to Kuala Terengganu (jet lag pun tak abis lagi kan Capt...). I can feel the strong spirit in our team to complete the tasks while doing the flight checks.. (hati kecilku berkata "This is for you Malaysia, and if not us, who else?..mm..we are doing a fardu kifayah job!). We are doing our best for you Malaysia...(peh..patriotik abis..!)

Alhamdulillah..thank to God, our Learjet60 (Calibrator I) equipped with Normarc FIS are flying back and already done the flight inspection with success in TUDM Labuan airport and Brunei International airport on 03rd-07th November 2008. By the time this article was drafting, we had just done calibrating the ILS and PAPI at Kuching airport. Insyallah it will continue progressively and for sure that our schedule will become as tight as before. Hopefully our beloved FIS can hold until the arrival of the new FIS's which is worth RM25million.

mmmmm.... like i said before, a lots of true dedication is needed to accomplish this very important National Interest tasks but....only few know about it & appreciate it...

Khas Untuk Staff DCA Limbang

Pada 24 September 2008, Kitaorg mengadakan lawatan kerja di airport Limbang. Mulanya nak buat PAPI calibration, tetapi disebabkan masalah teknikal pesawat, maka kerja calibration terpaksa di batalkan.

Flight Inspection History in Malaysia

We will now bring you back to the year of 1969.....and our reference is the document of 'Final Draft Report,1969' - Flight Inspection Programs: Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia (with Singapore and Brunei). The document is prepared by U.S. Department of Transportation for Agency for International Development, Washington, D.C.

PART II, Summary of Conclusions and Recommendations.

Malaysia has no current capability but recognizes the need for flight calibration. Planning is underway for acquisition of a suitably equipped aircraft. Malaysian Civil Aviation officials informally expressed willingness to provide reimbursable flight inspection services to the Governments of Singapore and Brunei. We believe that Malaysia can conveniently and at comparatively low cost obtain ground laboratory calibration service from Indonesia or Thailand, although Civil Aviation officials expressed the view that at least partial capability was already available in their Department of Telecommunications. The estimated in-country workload is approximately 420 flight hours per year. (REMEMBER THIS STATEMENT IS WRITTEN IN YEAR 1969!)

Requirements Analysis: Flight Inspection Malaysia

Preface
Transport by air within Malaysia's 127,700 square miles is important and increasingly in providing a link with the rest of the world. Malaysia is served by a number of international airlines and air agreements have been negotiated with 12 countries by the Malaysian Government. A new $20 million international jet airport has been completed near Kuala Lumpur capable of accommodating the present and next generation of jet aircraft. Further the airport is equipped with sophisticated instrument landing devices.

Air transportation is of special importance in East Malaysia, and regular (including jet) flight connect Sabah and Sarawak with West Malaysia and Singapore. The 'supply' of air services has been increased, and airports are being improved and air navigation and landing aids are being installed rapidly. Private flying is limited and principally consists of the operation of four flying clubs. These are located in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Facilities for pilot training at Kluang which are offered with the assistance of the Republic of Singapore Flying Clubs. The need is recognized to increase the pool of young pilots for future, not only for the Royal Malaysian Air Force, but for the growing internal air charter business.

The Government of Malaysia has planned and budgeted support for a flight inspection program as a means of protecting its investment in airports, communications and navigation aids, and to compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) concepts which provide that all countries operating navigational devices serving international routes and flights, must inspect and calibrate these facilities on a regular and frequent basis

Apa Itu Calibrator?

Calibrator ataupun Kalibrasi dalam bahasa melayu, merupakan salah satu organisasi yang menjalankan kerja-kerja kalibrasi ataupun penentukuran untuk semua alat pandu arah penerbangan yang berada di Malaysia. Ianya merangkumi peralatan2 seperti ILS,PAPI, VOR, NDB dan beberapa lagi peralatan yang berkaitan.

Organisasi ini di terajui oleh 3 org pilot yg berpengalaman dan dibantu oleh beberapa org Flight Inspector dan Jurutera Penerbangan. Antara tugas utama ialah memeriksa dan memastikan semua peralatan diatas sentiasa berada pada keadaan yang selamat untuk digunakan oleh pesawat.

Untuk menjalankan kerja2 diatas, organisasi ini menggunakan 2 buah pesawat LearJet 60 dan sebuah pesawat BeechCraft King Air 200.

Pada post yang akan datang, akan diterangkan serba sedikit sejarah penubuhan organisasi ini dan serba sedikit penerangan mengenai peralatan-peralatan diatas.

Definasi Calibration yang di ambil dari wikipedia:

Calibration is the process of establishing the relationship between a measuring device and the units of measure. This is done by comparing a device or the output of an instrument to a standard having known measurement characteristics. For example the length of a stick can be calibrated by comparing it to a standard that has a known length. Once the relationship of the stick to the standard is known the stick is calibrated and can be used to measure the length of other things.
